I was recently asked to participate in the yearly #EverydayEndoChat experience again for Endometriosis Awareness Month 2023. Here were my thoughts on each question presented.
Q1. Our first question is simple: How are you feeling? And we mean, how are you REALLY feeling?
A1. Life is hard so far this year. Ups and downs but still walking and moving and living. #EverydayEndoChat
Q2. Let’s talk about diagnoses. When were you diagnosed? How long did it take to get your diagnosis?
A2. I was Dx back in 1996 with #Endo and had a full hysterectomy and ovariectomy in Dec 1999. I tried all kinds of treatments in between Dx and hysto… #EverydayEndoChat
Q3. Had you heard of endometriosis before you were diagnosed? How so or where from?
A3. I had heard of it but didn’t know what it really was until I researched it after Dx to understand it better. #EverydayEndoChat
Q4. Since being diagnosed, have you had to travel far to see an endo specialist, and how did that make you feel?
A4. I had to travel an hour each way for the first 2 years, and then for lupron shots and surgery, I traveled more than 8 hours to a major university in each direction for a year. #EverydayEndoChat
Q5. Where did you turn to for support once you were diagnosed? Do you feel like you have support now?
A5. I didn’t have anyone to turn to for support outside of my husband. With social media, I am able to #EverydayEndoChat
Q6. Is social media one of your main sources of support and resources? What or who are your go-to resources for endo information and tips?
A6. I love being able to hear from other patients online as a way to cheer each other on. I also like to talk to other patients with Endo and share experiences in a more private setting like email or phone chats. #EverydayEndoChat
Q7. Social media is a great resource, but it’s not always great. Have you had negative experiences online regarding your condition? If yes, how have you managed them?
A7. Thankfully I have only had positive experiences regarding endo sharing and support online. #EverydayEndoChat
Q8. Time to brag about yourself. Tell us one thing (or more) that you are proud of yourself for having done this past year – whether it’s staying in touch with a friend, pursuing a hobby, figuring out a way to care of yourself, or something else.
A8. In the past year, I have helped pass laws that make a difference in patients’ lives. I am very proud of this. I have also enjoyed making a difference in the lives of many worldwide! Most recently, I have been happy we moved into a great place with my husband, MIL, and dog, Josie. #EverydayEndoChat
