So many people ask me what test they should have before they get Ketamine Infusions to see if there may be any contraindications. Below is the list of testing that I went through before my initial treatment. The ones with “*” next to them are the ones I highly suggest you do for sure!
Tests for Ketamine Candidates
Psychological Evaluation *
Sensory Testing (QST-AST)
EKG *
Echogram
Table Tilt
X-Ray Chest *
Blood Tests (CBC, Diff, CMP, T3, T4, TSH, CK, Qual Hcg Serum) *
Also think about your circulatory system. They were unable to take blood at all and insert an IV without problems for me, so I got a port. Some people are fine with regular IV lines, talk to your doctor about these options.
Port, Picc or IV Line
Getting off opioid medication before IV-Ketamine. Opioids activate Glia (fight/flight response). So does RSD. Ketamine “deactivates” Glia. For the best results for this infusion therapy I got off all opioid medications. Also, other medications like Klonopin may do the same reaction as an Opioid and although I didn’t take it, some of my friends did. When they did IV-K while on Klonopin/opioids it didn’t work, they went back and did IV-K after getting off and it did work.
