NERVEmber 2023!

As part of the OFFICIAL NERVEmber project, the International Pain Foundation raises awareness about nerve pain conditions. Since NERVEmber was founded, thousands of nerve pain patients and organizations have participated. As part of the project, individuals are encouraged to share a picture daily during NERVEmber to increase awareness. Funds are also presented for research, education, and support services.

Why do we have NERVEmber?

Nerve pain is one of the symptoms of over 150 conditions, which are usually misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or mistreated. It is the color of chronic pain awareness around the world.

NERVEmber is officially recognized by the International Pain Foundation as Neuropathy Awareness Month, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Awareness Month, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month, and Diabetes Awareness Month (November). Barby Ingle coined the term NERVEmber in October 2009. These awareness campaigns were initiated by the International Pain Foundation in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) charity. Since the Neuropathy community and movement for nerve pain awareness grew, the awareness activities grew into Nerve Pain Awareness Month, or NERVEmber as it is known in the pain community.

An Annual Event – NERVEmber!

Each year, the International Pain Foundation hosts the OFFICIAL NERVEmber project events, raising awareness of the 150+ conditions that have nerve pain as a symptom. NERVEmber has been promoted by tens of thousands of nerve pain sufferers and organizations since its inception.

People around the world gather during November to celebrate nerve pain. Events are held. Articles are written. Social Media statuses are updated, graphics are posted, and videos are created and spread online. Proclamations are issued. It is worthwhile to remember that all of these things can take place throughout the year, not just in November.

What You Can Do For NERVEmber

We encourage you to use #NERVEmber on your social media posts and awareness events to raise awareness of RSD, CRPS, Nerve Pain, and Neuropathy. This is an awareness campaign run by the International Pain Foundation. It is illegal to create pages titled NERVEmber/Nervember on social media and sell items with NERVEmber® trademarked items. The International Pain Foundation will address this legal matter in writing with those who attempt to profit from products and pages not approved by the Foundation. The only entity that can sell products and create pages for this project is the International Pain Foundation. Thank you!

As part of International Nerve Pain Awareness Month (which includes conditions such as RSD, CRPS, Diabetes, and Neuropathy), the #NERVEmber hashtag is used daily to promote awareness of neurological diseases. It’s time for NERVEmber again. Can you believe how far its grown in the past 11 years? It’s amazing. We now have people doing off shoots of our project and helping us take it around the galaxy! Last year we were over 40 million interactions. I am hoping for 50 million this year! Its amazing to see all of the growth and love for this event. NERVEmber® brings awareness to conditions that have nerve pain as a symptom. The International Pain Foundation host the OFFICIAL NERVEmber project events each year. Since its inception, tens of thousands of nerve pain patients and organizations have signed on to help promote NERVEmber. Did you know the color orange is the international color for chronic pain awareness. In over 150 conditions that do have nerve pain as a symptom, RSD is one of the most painful. Yet this condition is misunderstood, mistreated and often misdiagnosed. #NERVEmber is International Nerve Pain Awareness Month (including RSD, CRPS, Diabetes, Neuropathy and more). Each day during the month of #NERVEmber you can #GoOrange to help bring awareness to a condition with neurological symptoms. You can bring awareness to conditions like #RSD #CRPS #Diabetes by posting everyday with #NERVEmber @powerofpain #GoOrange. Using these tags will bring awareness to a condition near you.

This year and next I am the director of the event. With being sick with valley fever and the whole social distancing from the pandemic, this year has been quite slowly moving… but this is my birthday month. It is my favorite month of the year and I am just so proud of NERVEmber and all the people who are participating. This year we choose to use #FreezingFire because of the symptom of being cold even when its hot out… Most of the times we show orange to represent the fire… because it is much cheaper to print 1 color than multi… but fire is actually the simple of nerve pain. So this year being a virtual year we will be showing more of the colors of fire and the freezing aspects of it. We have also added the messaging to a mask background to represent this years project. I wonder if we will be needing to wear masks next year… is this going to be a forever thing or do we get to ditch them again except for those who are high-risk. Which I am,

Birthday Month

It’s my birthday! Yah! I celebrate all month long and I hope you celebrate with me this year. I am turning 47 this month. Since childhood I didn’t like the number 47, so I am hoping that I can make it a great year despite the number. So I am going to take my dad’s advice first…

“DO YOUR BEST, THAT’S ALL I ASK.”
One of the few rules I had for the kids was to do their best in everything they attempted to do. If it was not worth doing their best, then why bother doing it at all? It is like showing up on time. If it is not worth your best effort, do not bother. The enjoyment comes from the effort and the success that comes with the accomplishment. – Jim Ingle, Sr.

Second, I am fundraising for International Pain Foundation. This charity means the world to me, but if we can keep it going through fundraising, than we cant help as many people. It’s NERVEmber 2018

It’s NERVEmber 2018!!!!!! I remember flying on the plane back in 2009 during Oct. seeing a sea of pink everywhere and wishing that it was ORANGE! I new I needed to come up with something that could be remembered. By the time I got off the plane I had a plan set. Although Ken (my husband) said lets do PAINuary in January… I vetoed that idea and we started running full speed with the plan to implement the NERVEmber project. We have had over millions of interactions over the years from all over the world and new people learn about it every year. I love seeing the month of Orange posts on social media, the legislative support through proclamations and the awareness that NERVEmber has raised for so many nerve pain diseases over the years. Thank you all so much for join me every NERVEmber for the past 9 years to educate and raise awareness of RSD, CRPS, Nerve Pain, Neuropathy, Diabetic neuropathy, burning mouth, neuralgia and so many more! To see how the program is expanding and even that there are imitators out there shows me that I am on the right track to continue to grow and make a difference each year! Thank you for using #NERVEmber and #GoOrange for 2018 and thank you to Glen Shurtz for stepping up to be the director for the project the next two years. I love the simplicity of #GoOrange this NERVEmber!

This year we also have brought back Comic Pain Relief Show and it will take place in Tempe AZ on Nov. 18th. Which is my birthday 🙂 whootwhoot!!!!!!! For more details on the Hero of Hope awards check it out here

NERVEmber 2017 Join In On Our Awareness Efforts

This NERVEmber is underway and we have spent 10 months preparing to bring you new tasks, prizes, and nerve pain conditions. When I created NERVEmber back in 2009 it was a tool to represent Nerve Pain Awareness Month, RSD, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, CRPS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and Diabetes Awareness Month (November) by the International Pain Foundation. The word NERVEmber™. These awareness activities all started as back in 2007 by the International Pain Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity. As the Neuropathy community and nerve pain awareness movement grew, the awareness activities increased and grew into Nerve Pain Awareness Month or now commonly referred to in the pain community – NERVEmber.

NERVEmber™ brings awareness to the 150 plus conditions that have nerve pain as a symptom.The International Pain Foundation host the OFFICIAL NERVEmber project events each year. Since its inception, tens of thousands of nerve pain patients and organizations have signed on to help promote NERVEmber. During the month of November, many people throughout the world come together for the nerve pain community. Events are held. Articles are written. Facebook statuses are updated. Instagram photos are posted. Videos are created and spread online. Proclamations are issued. It is important to remember, that these are all important things that can happen throughout the entire year, not just in November.
